Cotton Anniversary Gift, Matthew 5:13-16

For a couple's second wedding anniversary, the bride commissioned me to create an original piece using a treasured bible verse that was also one of their readings.

Since the second year is the “Cotton” Anniversary, I used 100% cotton paper for that added symbolism! The verse was penned in two different calligraphy hands, and decorated with gold “flecks”—a reference to salt from the text—gilded with 23k gold on traditionally made gesso.
