Hihi! Chavelli here, the creative and classically trained calligrapher behind this eponymous NYC based studio. I have a love for sumptuous paper and tasteful details, and an eye for charming, polished designs.
Raised in the bustling, multi-cultural city of Hong Kong, my experience living and working on across the world is a clear influence in my creative approach. As a graphic designer for many years, I worked with clients huge and tiny; developing brand identities, print designs, unique packaging and more. These days, leveraging my artistic experience and production know-how, I specialize in creations that bring the beauty of the written word to lush paper and physical spaces.
On any given day you can find me dabbling in endless artistic pursuits, planning my next getaway, or playing with my furball friend, Bunsen. I also currently serve on the Board of Governors of the New York City guild Society of Scribes.
Savor the simplicity and splendor of life.
Celebrate the beauty in everything—in every corner of the globe.
Learn from others. Share your knowledge. Be fascinating. Every day.
Revel in the warmth of family and friends, daily celebrations, and moments of inspiration.
Ignite a positive spirit and encourage warmth and compassion.
Opt for optimism.
I’m passionate about living a life of delight and helping others do the same. I strive to plant seeds of optimism and enthusiasm, to spread happiness, and to encourage warmth and compassion.
For me, the splendor of life lies in the simplicity of its pleasures—smiles and hugs, delicious food, the warmth of family and friends—and I love injecting a little old-school charm into the way we communicate. In my mind, paper isn’t just paper. It’s a timeless avenue for intimate correspondence and connection. And words? They can look just as beautiful as the messages they convey.
I began my calligraphy journey when I was a mere 8 years of age, learning foundational hand at my British primary school growing up in colonial Hong Kong. Little did I know this was the start of a lifelong love for letters.
Years later I find myself enamored with letterforms, the history of writing, centuries old manuscripts, and the cultural differences that alter them from place to place. It’s a fascinating world, and I relish each opportunity to bring my love and dedication to the art of calligraphy to the needs of contemporary clients.
